huts Unspoilt Africa
Isithumba, situated in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is an imposing dome of rock that overlooks a tranquil stretch of the Umgeni River. The Umgeni river is a source of water for the community and the Duzi Canoe Marathon, which takes place during summer, passes along this river. The village is nestled in the heart of the Valley of a Thousand Hills in the tribal authority of KwaXimba. Traditional Zulu Homesteads encircled by cattle kraals dot the hillsides in the shadow of the mountain. Children play happily in the shallow pools on the edge of the river, while eagles soar in the clear blue sky overhead.

Near the foot of the mountain a number of beautifully constructed thatched rondavels overlook the sparkling river. This is aptly named Isthumba Adventure Tourism center, a unique community tourism initiative that provides the local community with an opportunity to earn some much-needed income.
